Laurent K. Kidinda holds a PhD from Dresden University and focuses in his research on the links between microbial and geochemical properties in African tropical soils. Laurent’s current research interest is to better understanding how tropical soil development and resulting geochemical properties interact with microbially-driven processes of organic matter decomposition to influence carbon and nutrient cycling in rapidly changing land uses. Laurent gained extensive experience in African tropical forest and agricultural ecosystems in is an expert for understanding the genesis and proper description of complex African Soil Landscapes. As a soil scientist in the DFG-funded Emmy Noether Group “TropSOC”, he led a comprehensive soil sampling and description campaign across the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda (near Fort-Portal) from 2018 to 2019. Laurent will co-lead the Soil Sampling and Classfication Workshop I and assist the summer school during the planned excursions.
